Check Out Original 1967 Shelby GT500 that Rolled into Donut Derelicts

001 1967 Mustang Shelby GT500 Brittany Blue Grille

It’s really strange how events can unfold. It was last Saturday morning at the Donut Derelicts in Huntington Beach, California, and while I was talking with my friend Sonny Goulet, a Brittany Blue 1967 Shelby GT500 rolled in and parked next to us. In itself that’s not such a strange occurrence, but I’d just finished writing an article about Jim Morrison’s Nightmist Blue 1967 Shelby GT500, and Sonny was my source for some of the historical facts about Jim Morrison in the article.

The VIN for Jim Morrison’s Shelby GT500 is known to a few but is not common knowledge, so I can’t tell readers how close this car was in production numbers to Morrison’s. What I can say is with the same exact Parchment colored interior and just a lighter shade of metallic blue, the only differences between Morrison’s and this car is Jim had a four-speed and this one’s a C6 automatic.

There are other features about this particular 1967 Shelby GT500 that are exact duplicates of Morrison’s car; please follow the link to the video of Jim driving his 1967 Shelby GT500 and see if you can spot what they are.

I didn’t get to meet the driver of the Brittany Blue GT500, but he did leave a signboard on the windshield telling the car’s history. His mother-in-law LaVerne, a fine looking redhead, bought the car in 1972 from “a kid down the street” that found himself a married father of twins and had to bail from the Shelby. A Pasadena, California born native, La Verne drove the Shelby until 1989 when the car could no longer pass smog, so she parked the Shelby in her garage and it stayed there until her recent death.

La Verne’s 1967 Shelby GT500, is not for sale and speaking for my fellow Donut Derelicts we’d like to thank her son-in-law for sharing the car with us.
